A REAL MAN AMONGST MEN

A REAL MAN AMONGST MEN

Today we lost a brother
To some a childhood had died,
Stood amongst flowers, flags, scarves
And grown men with heads bowed cried.
A rare gem of beauty, raw power and pace
The glittering smile I'll remember
As much as his stunning goals
Now, with the "King" he takes his place.
We stood by his side in the Hawthorns
Of that we're loud and proud,
When bananas and monkey chants rained down
He always smiled at the baying crowd.
His head and feet were his weapons
His skill and belief won again and again,
A giant in the legendary blue and white stripes
A real man amongst men.
West Bromwich Albion have lost a son
Now anointed with a true hero's chrism,
With Laurie and Brendon, our legend Big Cyrille
Trampled all over the blight of racism.
Farewell to our Cyrille Regis
Goodbye "Smokin Joe" from us all,
The goals, the class and the dignity
The Lord's now given you the call.

Cyrille Regis

West Bromwich Albion 1977- 1984
England international.

Rest in peace.
