AWAKENING DARKNESS

Darkness comes
It comes to us all,
Slowly, no remorse
Creeping and slithering
A winter calling.
Seasoned eyes
Survey the harvest ball,
Fiery breath over silhouette tree
As 'Smaug' ignites the fall.
A time to lose yourself
Within oneself,
Mist in the air
Faltering health,
Demons and angels
Heavy sea swells
The awakening darkness
History tells.
Bountiful fruits
Amongst the funeral suits
The horn of plenty
Lay in orchard sack,
The toll of the bell
Heralds the men in black.
Death watch beetles
Crawl, waiting in the slime,
Although the son of man
All starlight and tinsel
Was born at this time.
The lights go out on the world
And still stories are unfurled,
Awakening darkness
Under slate grey sky.
Let me die
Let me live,
You think I've much to give?
The crop is harvested
Batten down
Winter frown
All around now just
Suspended in frost
Or dead.
