INTO
THE ABYSS
(Adapted
from the track ‘Descent’ in my continuing tribute to Black Sun Empire)
(play video above)
The
dark void waits
Fear
plunges barbs into clammy flesh,
The
rope clinging to ankle
As
toes curl upon the entrance
Into
the depths of hell.
Glistening
muscle tensed
Pulsing,
straining adrenalin
Throbs
the perspiring temple,
Knees
twitch in unison
The
leap into the abyss
Will
you survive?
Amazonian
mystery
Spewing
forth bats,
Gods
of the underworld
Will
they welcome or devour,
Arms
out stretched
Eyes
in prayer
You
leap headlong.
The
rush into blackness
The
fetid reeking air,
Decay
and glittering eyes
The
biting fangs
The
piercing needle,
Feasting
insects
Tear
at your plunging form.
Your
lungs are aflame
Chest
taut, ribs cracking,
As
you find the floor of the Abyss
Mere
feet from crushing your skull,
Your
brain unhinged as the rope pulls
The
ascent is swift.
Exultant,
King of the Abyss
The
beauty of flight,
Air
purifies,
Life
is good
The Gods salute you
As
pulled into the realm of the living
You
survived the Abyss.
But,
The
dark is patient
Someone
will test themselves again,
Will
the Gods release them?
Will
the insects and scorpions feast?
Welcome
to the Abyss
Your
nightmare can be real.
