TWICE UNDER A NEVER

There is no happy ending
No saviour, kissing prince,
The witch eats the children
The darkness makes one wince.
The bears tear the girl apart
For breaking their chair,
The hero plunges to a painful death
Trying to climb a princesses hair.
The mischievous little boy
Made out of apple wood,
Gets burnt to death suddenly
Because he just couldn't be good.
Goliath beheaded David
No difference between heaven and hell,
The water turned to vinegar
Only time will tell.
The fishes all went rotten
There were weevils in the bread,
Close your eyes, see the darkness
This is what it's going to be like dead.
This is twice under a never
Not once upon a time,
The reality of the void behind the eyelids
Life isn't a nursery rhyme.

  1. Very powerful poem! Nicely written! I love the weaving of children's stories and biblical stories to reach your conclusion. Very well done!
