Got up this morning

The news was going mad,

TV and radio in meltdown,

Was it something really bad?

Had someone shot

A president

Or something

Just as sad?

Had we found

Life on Mars,

Or was beer free

In all the local bars?

Had petrol run out

To stop us driving our cars?

No! It was none of these.

Or had Brazil

Cut down all the amazons’ trees?

Had a Monarch

Of some country died?

Did chicken taste better

When it was fried?

Was there now a Muslim Pope!

Had the last one just been fired?

No it was even more incredible

Than these

A football manager had just retired!!!!
